Warning: This is not a review but a discussion so…
Let’s talk about truly down to the bone important things… like… ketchup or catsup or tomato sauce or whatever the heck!
What is it exactly? According to Wikipedia, ketchup “is a sweet and tangy sauce, typically made from tomatoes, vinegar, a sweetener, and assorted seasonings and spices. The sweetener is most commonly sugar or high fructose corn syrup.”
And so where does it belong?
Many people put it on hamburgers, fries, sandwiches, and even eggs.
Well here are my rules for ketchup:
Ketchup is a condiment not a side dish.
Ketchup is ok on burgers and any type of fries.
Ketchup does NOT belong on pastas/spaghettis, hot dogs (but I understand why people do it), cereal, RICE! (don’t ruin a good thing people), soups, salads, filet mignons, rib eyes, new york style steaks, pizzas (attention papa johns), stews, twizzlers, donuts, tacos, burritos, cakes,
Ketchup is ok on these things ONLY IF…
-the steak is poorly cooked, otherwise don’t ruin a good thing!
-the eggs are over cooked
-the hot dog is not chicago style and has mustard on it too (balance people!)
-And one rule about fries… Please don’t drizzle it all over the basket of fries. I like to dip.
This is just me here. I like to taste the original ingredients of a dish, but sometimes condiments are needed to fix, distract, or enhance something. I admit, I am more of a BBQ sauce person, but Ketchup or Catsup is a great thing. However, there is a time and place for this. There are serious boundaries here people. BOUNDARIES.
What are your rules for ketchup? I’d love to here what you guys think.
