I don’t care what anyone says, Hot Pockets are tasty especially after school… and after a long day at work… and in the morning for breakfast… and… ok pretty much anytime for me. I think it is because I would always have them as a snack after school. It was really hard not to eat the second one you get in the box because I know I would want it for the next day after school.
Lately, I have been in the mood for nostalgic childhood treats. I went to Target knowing Hot Pockets are around $2. I decided to get the simple cheese pizza hoping that this would remind me of running home from the bus starving for a snack. My usual is Pepperoni, but I wanted a plain, less salty meaty choice. Would it be the same as when I was in 5th grade?
Ok, the package looked the same, still individually wrapped with the sleeve. Now, if my adult mind remembers correctly, Hot Pockets are always way hotter than they seem even after just a minute in the microwave. After anxiously waiting for that minute to pass, I pull the pocket out and sit for 30 seconds. People, I am really excited!!!! Like, really!!! I can’t wait any longer, so I open it up.
The cheese oozes out a little it with the tomato like sauce swirling through as well. Yep, just as I thought, the processed ingredients are piping hot. They look oh so deliciously unhealthy, but beautiful. Kinda ugly pretty ya know?
First bite takes me way back. I chew slowly and the cheese mixed with the tomato whatever fills my mouth with childhood memories of Nickalodeon and VH1, hot summers skateboarding, and pushing the curfew. Aaaah yes, it fills my heart with relief. And Guess what???? I can have the second one too because why? Because I am a damn adult now and I can do what I want! However, I also have an adult’s stomach with lactose intolerance and crohns. Can I handle it? Should I risk the next 2 or 3 days? No, I have rehearsals and engagements with people. I wouldn’t want to put them through hell either. OK, well, save it for another time. At least I had this moment to remember the good old days. I feel good.
The round up:
Would I buy this again: Yes
Can I finish it: in a heart beat
Overall rate: 7.5 (mainly for nostalgic reasons)
Thanks for reading peops!
