My dad and I were cruising down Snelling Avenue North from a wonderful shopping run for my mom-face. Sometimes when we are hanging out in crazy weirdo arguable suburban Roseville, we look for some good old fast and-or comfortable stuff to smash our heads in. My dad is usually into burgers. Being annoyingly Minnesotan though, he will not decide where to go even though I KNOW he wants his usual Wendy’s. I am seriously into any place as long as I can get something interesting to review.
To my surprise, he suggested Baja Sol because… well I don’t actually know. Why the effe not? I can compare it to Taco Bell and Chipotle in some fashion. Cool!
We walk in and it is freezing! Looking at the menu, everything is expensive way a little bit more than Chipotle. I thought, damn this better be a delicious titanic burrito. Dad orders a diablo chicken burrito. I get a chicken burrito WITH rice NO sour cream. I always have to order rice because I need that in burritos and in life (I am azn). However, I can NOT have sour cream or dairy because I am lactose intolerant. Even though the burritos are so damn expensive, they are pretty weighty and warm. Things are kind of looking up.
I open up the bag. I got a little disappointed that the burritos were wrapped in paper. Burritos are always more fun in foil on the outside at least. Whatever.
There were black beans, “spanish” rice, shredded lettuce, chopped onions, tomatoes, and ZUCCHINIs! Wow the zucchinis added a lot of freshness actually. The rice had a good pork flavor that I would be ok with eating just that alone. With all that said though, the burrito did not have much flavor. I needed to add my own salsa verde to spice it up along with tapatio for some heat. I don’t have to do that with Chipotle or Taco Bell’s Cantina burrito. I would go rather go to Qdoba, Taco Bell, or Chipotle then Baja Sol. I kept thinking damn El Burrito Mercado is the best. Why do you have to be so far away?!!!! Maybe some spiced avocado would have helped or something. I don’t know. For the price and the taste, it is not worth it again. Sorry Sol, it is a NEAUX! But thanks though. I am not mad atcha for existing.
The run down:
Would I buy this again: No
Woud I go back to Baja Sol: No
Can I finish it: barely. I kind of didn’t want to, but with the price, I felt bad if I didn’t.
Overall rate: 3
Peace to yous!
