In no way am I versed in Latin cuisine. You could give me a samosa and an egg roll but stuff it with taco flavored donkey meat and I would be all like “Yo pop me a Corona. Let’s watch some futball!” Honestly, I am not a huge fan of Tex Mex. I never really had anything close to it when I was growing up. My parents never really presented it as an option not even Taco Bell. It is funny because my mom grew up in California. She used to talk about how she had tacos and fresh quesadillas in her “school girl days”. The closest thing I ever had to Latin cuisine was chips and salsa. I liked extra salty thin hot flour tortilla chips with chunky SPICEY meaning painful salsa (with a sprite puhlease and thnx).
Ok eventually, I got into taco bell. Thank you baby jesus, my palate is now enjoying for real authentic latin cuisine (TC’s El Burrito Mercato baby) ranging from Puerto Rican to Mexican to fake Mexican to even myself trying to make fake Mexican… I am so racist SMH! JAjajajaja….
Anyway, onto La Chipotle (fast casual junk).
In general I like Chipotle especially the chicken burritos with extra rice. Chipotle is not something I have often because there are not any within 3 miles. However, I was at the Mall of America Xmas shopping when I thought I would stop in for a burrito. Yes, I can handle one by myself EASY! Someone challenge me to 2 burritos? DO IT. This time I wanted to try something new. Why not? I decided to go for the Sofritas which is spicy tofu.
The burrito “artists” put brown rice in there. Now, I don’t like brown rice in ANY cuisine. My philosophy on ‘rice’: Guilty of being white, guilty of being right. Call me “rice”-ist. Blame my taste buds ok! Geez! I ate it anyway. Not a fan. The Sofritas them selves were not tasty just salty. There was no flavor just really just salt there. The tofu was not even tender. What the…? Some people would not mind this, but I like my tofu REALLY soft! I guess I was disappointed. I am going to stick with my meats and make sure I get the white rice. Let the jokes fly, but that’s I roll.
For a vegetarian/vegan, this is the thing for you!!!!
The round up:
Would I buy Sofritas again? No
Did I finish it? Yes
Would I recommend it? to vegans and or vegetarians
