Tonight we are taking a boat to China. That’s right. The REAL DEAL! Authentic Chayneez Fuwd. Are you ready? Got your ticket?
Let’s hit it! Tai Pei’s Orange Chicken. Honestly, I have never had orange chicken before, not even from Panda Express or any other Americanized Chinese joint. I usually get Sesame, General Tso, or just chicken wings if I am choosing a chicken item. Really there is not much difference between Sesame, General Tso, or Orange flavors. I thought I would give the frozen version a try.
This takeout box supposed to have sliced carrots, pea pods, broccoli, red peppers, water chestnuts, rice and breaded chicken breasts with the sauce. All players were present in their own way. The carrots were small and had bite. The broccoli was nice, tender and soaked up the sauce which I like. There pea pods were soft and tasty, no pointiness. The red peppers and water chestnuts were teeny and barely there. The rice soaked up all the sauce. No white left behind (no racial). The chicken = 3 FRIGGIN pieces! THREE SOFT LITTLE NUGGETS! They were like crumbs. Ya know what y’all? I was not surprised. I don’t ever have high hopes for “Asian” dishes in the frozen section. They usually skimp on the mains. The sauce: it was like La Choy or Kraft Sweet and Sour. FRRREAL! Tolerable, but nothing to redo.
The round up:
Did I finish it? Yes because it was the only thing I had
Would I buy it again? No
Would I recommend it? Eh… Naaah
