Hey gang! Maggie here. Let’s cut to the chase: these chips (or crisps as they call them here in Ireland, as well as in the UK) were surprisingly good.
I picked them up as a novelty/impulse buy and to be completely honest I didn’t expect them to taste much like wasabi. I dunno, maybe I’m just cynical but I guess I often expect to be disappointed, especially when Asian flavours are westernized. I’m used to chips not following through on their flavour promises. It’s just a sad reality of life.
I like wasabi and eat an inappropriate amount of it on my sushi. I like to get that sensation of clearing sinuses + pain. These aren’t that level of intensity, but they do hit all the right notes: soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. They taste exciting enough that I want to keep eating them, and the sharpness of the wasabi has a cleansing effect, oddly refreshing for a potato chip.
Good texture. The “Sensations” line from Walkers is akin to a light kettle chip (thicker than standard Walkers, which is the UK/Irish version of Lays).
Would I buy them again? Hard to say. I don’t eat loads of crisps, and really wanted to try them simply for the novelty.
