Always on the prowl for new junk food, I spotted these bad boys while I was wandering around Tesco this week. Just the day before, I had been lamenting the abundant variety of KitKat flavours available in Japan but not easily accessible to the rest of the world.
Lemon Drizzle sounded interesting, particularly given its pairing with the standard milk chocolate. In my opinion, lemon and chocolate are always an iffy combo. They can go together, but it isn’t a given like chocolate/orange or chocolate/mint, so colour me intrigued!
They come in a pack of 9 snack size KitKats with 2 bars each, and just like on the package, the KitKat looks pretty identical to the standard milk chocolate version.
On first bite, you do get a pleasant lemon flavour, like lemon frosting that comes in a tub. The taste is less noticeable on subsequent bites, but still there.
I have a strong affinity for KitKats. Interestingly, in Ireland KitKats are often sold in the cookie (biscuit) section, rather than the candy aisle. I would firmly attest that KitKats are candy, but I certainly enjoy the cookie aspect that the wafers contribute. Still, it’s an interesting debate — what do you think: cookies or candy (let me know in the comments!)?
Though a bit confusing for my palette, I will undoubtedly eat the rest of these.
Would I buy again? Probably not. There are other flavours of KitKat that I would rather eat.
Do I recommend them? If you’re into lemon/chocolate combos then absolutely! If you enjoy novelty then I’d also suggest giving them a try.
How would I change them? I would love to see made with just lemon and no chocolate (as is probably available in Japan).
